The Job

Are you self-motivated, happy working in a team environment and flexible enough to adapt to a changing environment? If this sounds like you, read on to find out how you can hit the ground running.

This is an exciting moment for The Glasshouse. With a growing programme of gigs and concerts, conferences and a major fundraising campaign ahead, this role will play a key part in shaping how our story is told. You’ll have real responsibility, strong support and the chance to make a visible impact in an organisation that believes in the power of music and culture to change lives.

This is a new permanent part-time role (22.5 hours a week).

You’ll bring:

  • Solid experience in a media relations or PR role, either in-house or agency-side.
  • A strong news sense, with a track record of developing stories and securing coverage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write engaging, on-brand press materials that reflect The Glasshouse’s tone of voice and values.
  • Confidence working directly with journalists and acting as a main press contact, including in fast-paced or sensitive situations.
  • Experience briefing and supporting senior spokespeople.
  • Strong journalist relationships and pitching experience.
  • Experience managing press visits, interviews, events or filming.
  • Strong organisation skills and the ability to juggle priorities and deadlines.
  • A collaborative approach and comfortable working across teams and with external partners.
  • Experience working on PR activity involving external partners or multi-stakeholder projects, with an understanding of how to manage shared stories, approvals and relationships.
  • A proactive mindset, with the confidence to take ownership and make decisions.
  • An interest in (or enthusiasm for learning about) music, arts, culture and the charity sector.
  • Experience of working in the arts, culture or third sector is desirable but not essential, what matters most is your ability to tell compelling stories and build positive media relationships.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Media relations and storytelling: Taking responsibility for day-to-day media relations at The Glasshouse, with a particular focus on regional press and targeted national opportunities.
  • Researching, writing and distributing press releases, pitches and media materials, turning ideas and activity into clear, compelling coverage.
  • Proactively identifying, developing and pitching interviews, features and newsworthy stories, working closely with our PR agency (Premier) on national and strategic opportunities, across all areas of the organisation including concerts, gigs, education, artist development, conferences and fundraising.
  • Delivering PR activity for events, projects and partnerships that take place both at The Glasshouse and off-site, working confidently with external partners, venues and stakeholders to manage messaging, approvals and media relationships.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with journalists across regional, national, trade and broadcast media.
  • Identifying and supporting broadcast and opinion-led opportunities, including TV, radio, podcasts and first-person comment where appropriate.
  • Planning and campaign delivery: Working closely with our PR agency (Premier) to deliver joined-up media activity, with a clear split between national/strategic and regional storytelling.
  • Working with the Senior Communications Manager and PR agency to plan media activity around key organisational moments, announcements and campaigns, ensuring the right stories land at the right time.
  • Providing dedicated PR support to Conferences & Events and the Development team, including the public launch of our major fundraising campaign in 2026.
  • Leading PR support for fundraising campaigns, showing the impact of our work and the difference supporters make.
  • Working with colleagues to publicise fundraising initiatives, partnerships and appeals, including joint media activity with corporate partners and stakeholders.
  • Supporting press activity around food, drink, retail and The Glasshouse as a destination, including Gateshead Quays.
  • Managing enquiries and spokespeople: Managing media enquiries and coordinating press visits, interviews, broadcasts, photocalls and filming.
  • Briefing and supporting senior spokespeople, including the Chief Executive and Directors, for media interviews.
  • Supporting senior leaders to contribute to wider sector conversations through media commentary, interviews and opinion pieces.
  • Supporting crisis or sensitive communications alongside the Senior Communications Manager and wider leadership team.
  • Insight and leadership support: Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on media coverage and impact, sharing insight to strengthen future activity.
  • Providing practical PR advice to teams across The Glasshouse helping shape messaging, identify opportunities and set expectations.
  • Collaborating closely with Marketing and Digital colleagues to ensure joined-up campaigns.
  • Representing The Glasshouse at relevant external events and meetings.
  • Deputising for the Senior Communications Manager when required.
